The village of Afshar in the Kabul district (Ludwig W. Adamec, 1985)

The village of Afshar in the Kabul district

A large Kizilbash village in the Kabul district, 4 miles west of Sherpur. Here Macpherson encamped on the 8th and 9th December 1879, leaving his camp on the 10th to fight the action of Karez-i-Mir. It was from this place also that, on the 11th December, the horse artillery and cavalry advanced towards Arghandi, when they encountered the overwhelming force of afghans under Muhammad Jan. Immediately to the east of Kala-i-Aoshar is the Nanachi or Aoshar Kotal over which an excellent road now leads. The place is strong, surrounded by bastioned walls from 15 feet to 20 feet high. This village contain 100 houses. (Kennedy, A.B.C.)
